What does the parasite test measure?
GetTested Parasite Rapid Test
The GetTested parasite test can quickly and easily detect Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, and Cryptosporidium in human stool samples. These widespread parasites are known causes of intestinal infections. To ensure effective treatment, such a parasitic infection must be detected as quickly as possible. Learn more about these parasites below:
Entamoeba histolytica: A dangerous parasite
Entamoeba histolytica is a parasitic, anaerobic amoeba that infects humans and other primates, often causing amoebic dysentery. The parasite can remain asymptomatic or cause severe diseases such as amoebic dysentery and liver abscesses.
Giardia lamblia: A cause of diarrhea
Giardia lamblia, a single-celled organism, frequently causes severe diarrhea and is particularly problematic for immunocompromised individuals. There are acute and chronic phases that can cause malabsorption and weight loss. Accurate diagnosis is therefore key to successful treatment.
Cryptosporidium: A resilient parasite
The diarrheal disease cryptosporidiosis is caused by Cryptosporidium, a microscopic parasite. Its ability to survive outside the body for long periods and its resistance to common disinfectants make its control particularly challenging – especially in water systems.
How the test works and its application
The parasite test is easy to perform and requires a stool sample for analysis. Special test cassettes are used that provide a direct result for the detection of these parasites. Early detection is crucial for successful treatment and to prevent further spread.
Materials and instructions
All necessary materials, such as test cassettes and sample tubes with extraction buffer, are included in the test kit. Detailed instructions guide the user through the entire sampling and analysis process. Please note: Sample containers and a timer are required but are not included in the kit.
Which test do you need: parasite or other gut test?
If you are experiencing gut issues, consider our other gut health tests, which can examine gut flora, malabsorption, the presence of leaky gut, and much more. From targeted to comprehensive tests, we offer a range of options. For issues like Candida, we offer a specific test. For SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth), a separate breath test is available.
Beyond parasites: The importance of nutrient deficiency testing
In the context of potential parasitic infections, it is important to understand the full extent of one's health. Parasites can impair the body's ability to absorb nutrients, leading to deficiencies and exacerbating health problems. For this reason, it is strongly recommended to consider nutrient deficiency tests in addition to standard parasite tests.
