What is measured in the H. pylori test?
Peptic ulcer and H. pylori
Stomach ulcers, often caused by the H. pylori bacterium, are located in the stomach lining and can exhibit a variety of symptoms. It's important to note that many people infected with H. pylori do not exhibit any symptoms. People often become infected with the bacteria in early childhood and carry it unnoticed throughout their lives. An infection with Helicobacter pylori can lead to gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining) and duodenal ulcers of varying severity. In rare cases, it can also lead to stomach cancer.

How is the test performed?
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and rinse with clean water.
- Collect the stool sample: Use the stool paper and be careful not to contaminate the sample. Ensure that the sample or the side of the paper containing the sample does not come into contact with contaminated objects, including the toilet.
- Prepare the stool sample: Unscrew the cap of the sample collection tube. Insert the sample collection applicator into the stool sample at at least three different locations. Do not crush the stool sample. Then screw the cap back on the sample collection tube and shake vigorously to mix the sample with the extraction buffer.
- Ensure the pouch containing the test cassette is at room temperature before opening. Remove the test cassette from the foil pouch and use it as soon as possible. For best results, perform the test immediately after opening the foil pouch.
- Open the cap of the sample tube and break off the tip. Invert the tube. Add two full drops of the sample into the sample well (S) of the test cassette. Then start the timer. Make sure that no air bubbles enter the sample well (S).
- Read the result after 10 minutes. Don't read the result after 20 minutes.
