What is Ehrlichiosis in Dogs?
Ehrlichia canis is a tick-borne bacterium primarily transmitted by the brown dog tick ( Rhipicephalus sanguineus ). It causes Canine Monocytic Ehrlichiosis (CME), a disease that attacks white blood cells and can spread throughout the body. Untreated, it leads to anemia, immunosuppression, and organ damage. Dogs in tick-infested areas or with known tick exposure are at highest risk.

Common signs of infection can include:
- Fever
- Lethargy or decreased activity
- Loss of appetite
- Weight loss
- Swollen lymph nodes

Untreated, Ehrlichia infections can become chronic and are then much more difficult to treat.
