Adenovirus test for dogs

Test type: Self-test dog

Pickup method: Stool or saliva

The Canine Adenovirus Antigen Rapid Test Kit is a rapid and reliable diagnostic tool for the qualitative detection of canine adenovirus (CAV) antigen in dogs. This self-test is particularly valuable for identifying canine adenovirus type 1 (CAV-1), the virus responsible for infectious canine hepatitis (ICH) – a potentially serious and contagious disease that primarily affects the liver, kidneys, and blood vessels of dogs.

Canine adenovirus type 1 spreads through direct contact with infected urine, saliva, or feces and can survive in the environment for extended periods. Following infection, a dog may develop a variety of symptoms, ranging from mild to life-threatening, depending on the severity of the infection and the dog's immune response.

Common symptoms of CAV-1 include:

  • High fever
  • Vomiting and diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite
  • abdominal pain
  • Swelling in the head, neck or chest area
  • Lethargy and depression
  • Jaundice or pale gums in severe cases
  • In some cases, sudden death can occur – especially in unvaccinated dogs or puppies
